Henry our builder supervising the packing of the Landy

Henry on route

Crossing the Pangani River

Just a little Landy preventative maintenance on route.
Truth is we were 2 kms from our destination when I turned to Sabine.
" See we made it for the first time without breaking down"
"We are not there yet" she
replied.
She had not even finished the sentence when the Landy died.
Dirty fuel.
You can see from her face how happy she was with her prediction!

Luckily Harm and Selina were with us in convoy.
Sila my mechanic, and Harm soon had us mobile again.

The girls didn't want to get dirty so they decided to go for a brief walk down the road.
Mind the wildlife!

Wasn't long before they decided it was not a good idea
walking to far from the cars in this place.

An hour later we arrive on the beautiful Sima Beach

Ten minutes later I had the bar set up.
Long trip in a 40 year old Landy!
Man needs a bar after a drive like that.

Didn't take long for the lawyer to find the bar open.

Some need to take the family for a walk down one
of the most unique beaches in the world.
Another 40 kms before you find another person.
Animal prints all over the beach.

Meanwhile the staff get the camp organised.

Just in time as the weather starts to set in.
Extremely unusual for this time of year.

A wild night on Sima Beach

Who burnt my sausages?

Planning the next trip.

Next morning after an eventful night Sabine prepares for a game walk 5 kms up the river.

A group photo of us all kitted up before we head off.
The Sima River expedition September 2014
Not sure if this was to be the last photo.

The river is dry this time of year and there are elephant droppings everywhere.
They come down the river during the dry season digging for water.

...as do the locals a few kms up stream.

They soon befriend Sabine.

The first ones girlfriend didn't want to be left out of the picture either.

We even find the well on our own property

A stand of old Borassus palms

And an old friend up a tree further up the river.

After four days on the beach it's time to leave.

We are going back on the 9th of October with Torben and others.

The storm still lingers.

And by the way.....

This is the last pub before the plot......

The Dulla High Way Pub in Mkwaja.

It is also the bus stop to Dar.

The Pangani ferry with Richie

The road into the plot

Pretty wild.

The beach to the south. Probably 50 kms before you find anything else

Where the road enters the beach.

As far as you can see on this photo is our plot.

The river at low tide.

River turns west inland.

and again

South end of the plot where the river turns west. The plot north is all the way to the casaurinas.
Nev Harries in the foreground.

We walked north for five kms and found an old dhow washed up.

Richie in the foreground

A few more kms and we found "Tent with a view"

One of their rented cottages at $500 p/p per night.

We will build in the same style.

Bathroom at TWAV

Alastair drove us about 10 kms down south along the beach.

50 Kms of turtle sanctuary.

Baboons in the distance coming back from the reef where they have been hunting crabs.

A lot of nothing for miles.

This is about 5 kms south of the plot.

Sabines birthday on the road with a flat tyre and no spare.

Sent off for a repair to a mud hut with a foot pump somewhere south of here with our mechanic.

We then opened a bottle and waited.

.....and waited.

How many bottles do you think I have had?

Finally the guys cuaght up with us and finished off the last 8 bottles of bubbles.

Sabine's tool box.
One hour after this photo was taken it was empty.

Rebecca at the river

My storm trooper at the river.

...and looking north from the river.

This time we even had a bed made to keep us off the sand.

Walking the beach at low tide.

Sabine rounding up the local wildlife before lunch.

Lunch on the beach. Grapes, smoked salmon and champagne.

Cheers!

Rob and Keith pointing out the approaching storm.

Yanick our German water engineer who is going to change the course of the river to prevent further erosion.

Johann our resident wildlife fundi.

Torben and Chris at the river mouth.

The impending storm.
Not normal this time of year but due to the El Nino

Our fundi Sila preparing for more rain on our trip back.

Ushwin asked me to look out for an old Landy for him.
Think I found just the right one.
Sitting in a village just south of Pangani.

Just fitted a new Samsung Note 4 dashboard to my Landy.

Speedo, altitude the lot.

Found a nice little hotel in Tanga to spend the night and break the journey.

Central City Hotel. 2,500/- per double room.

Just starting to lay sacks on the fllor of the river at the northern end.

On the right. The bar on the beach.

A few of our Swiss friends.

Christina and Jose

Careful crossing!

A real maridadi 2 storey mud hut halfway between Pangani and Mkwaja.

Ushongo Beach 8 kms south of Pangani.

Looking across the Pangani River from the south

Boda Bodas waiting for clients coming off the Pangani Ferry.

6 days on the road and I'm going to make it home tonight.

Ditto

New place we found between Tanga and Pangani.
Decided to stay the night after we had a flat tyre on the way back.
